Our arbor-mounted mechanical spring reels are among the most versatile and popular cable retractors, thanks to their easy-to-adjust cable tension feature. These reels utilize a conventional power spring, which gradually increases cable tension as the cable is extended. The process of adjusting tension is simple: by holding the arbor and rotating the reel, the internal spring begins to engage. Once the desired tension is achieved, the cable is rewound onto the spool, a process known as "prewinding" the spring.

For decreasing the tension, the user can hold the reel to prevent it from spinning and remove a single wrap of the cable from the spool. With the arbor securely in place, the reel is allowed to spin backward one full rotation, after which the cable can be rewound onto the spool. This adjustability makes these arbor-mounted reels highly efficient and customizable to various needs.

Arbor-mounted reels are frequently used in aircraft interiors to facilitate the smooth operation of cabin doors, luggage compartments, tray tables, and stairs. Their ease of use and reliability make them indispensable for applications where controlled tension and smooth retraction are essential.
